Hiked the JFA Trail. Liked that hikers and bikers go opposite direction. Nice workout but not many views as it's all under tree line.Note: Falls are on a separate shorter trail
Great park! Free admission. Parking in several locations. Beach and fishing pier on the lake. Multiple trails including a paved handicapped-accessible one. Has overnight cabins. Popular among hikers and mountain bikers. Trails go through the beautiful forest of pines and tulip poplars, climbing up to the ridge and winding down toward the creek – a very pleasant experience indeed!
Beautiful nature park outside of Travelers Rest. The Leroy Smith walking trail leads to a surprising clearing with picnic tables, a brick-and-mortal pavilion, a playground (swings and merry-go-round), a small lake with fenced pier, and a well-maintained lawn. The park also includes other hiking and biking trails and a campsite (not pictured).
There once was a beloved state campground here. After the county acquired the property, it was converted into an unkept county park with no camping for regular folks. They did invest in a camp and retreat center that is mostly for hosting groups and camps with $$$. Great trail, but the cyclists think they own it solely for having their dogs off-leash while bombing down trails directly towards pedestrian hikers. It's a recipe for disaster that county officials refuse to acknowledge, effectively creating a public safety issue.
This is a lovely, but aged park. Ideal for mountain biking and for young families with small children who need short trails for hiking. The best trail, of course is the memorial trail that has a beautiful waterfall just 400 meters from the parking lot.
Really awesome park! It’s one of the most well kept parks I’ve been to in a long time, didn’t see a single piece of trash on the ground. It was super quiet the day we went, may have only passed 3 people total. We were hunting the elusive trail cat but unfortunately didn’t find her so we’ll just have to come back sooner than later to look again. Did spot a couple herons by the lake though so we’ll call it a win.
Was very nice! The bike and walking trails needs some TLC but I guess that takes money. But great place to meet for family get togethers.
Gorgeous park, we’ll maintained and not too far from the city. Excellent mountain bike trails.
